The monthly feature shelf I have set up in the library at The Community Services Center (a.k.a. work) - this month we're doing memoir movie tie-in.

Sunday 5th September 2010

Autumn has arrived in Taipei!! I love it when the leaves change colour - autumn has always been my favourite Northern Hemisphere season.

Friday 3rd September 2010

This is why I don't drive in Taiwan!!! Seen on our way home from taking Kratos for a run by the High Speed Rail station.

The second day of typhoon grey hanging over Taipei. Umbrellas not optional!!

Monday 30th August 2010

Three typhoons lurking around the island makes for a very rainy day. Roads were rivers, parks were swimming pools, lanes were lakes and I was soaked. The positive is that its now a bit cooler - 28 instead of 34!

Saturday 28th August 2010

Playing fetch with Kratos in the park opposite the High Speed Rail station in Taoyuan. It was completely empty and (most importantly) devoid of dogs so we could let him off to run without any worries. He had a ball (haha see what I did there?.... sorry)

Friday 27th August 2010

Enjoying a lovely Friday morning breakfast, courtesy of my sister-in-law's parents who brought bread from Tokyo for us and gave me a beautiful coffee cup. It was this brilliant start to the day that lead to me having an unusually productive Friday - love it!

Thursday 26th August 2010

Looking towards a mountain retreat in the Shilin area of Taipei. This photo makes me feel peaceful.

Wednesday 25th August 2010

Something I rarely get to see these days - a sunset! Usually its hidden behind a building or I'm too busy. This one was a nice treat and nearly made up for being drenched in a random thunderstorm when I got home in Taoyuan!

Family sculpture in Zhongcheng Park, Tianmu on a sunny summer afternoon.

Beautiful view of Yangmingshan on my way into Taipei in the morning to do my Yangmingshan National Park proofreading.

Saturday 21st August 2010

Another haircut - this one modelled on Detective Beckett from "Castle" (Season One). The best bit was the long and relaxing scalp massage.... heaven!

Thursday 19th August 2010

Hubby talking on the phone and playing Playstation at the same time. Who says men can't multi-task?!

Getting my nails done - I chose the front pink, nice and subtle!

Friday 13th August 2010

On my second hike with the lovely folks from the Yangmingshan National Park we were taken on a wee detour to see the sulfur vents at Dayoukeng (dah - yo - kung). It was seriously awesome and more than worth the battle through 7 foot high silver grass to see it!

Registering piles of newly donated books for our Bookcrossing Zone at work.

Lemon body scrub - also from Bali - is now a weekly ritual :)

Burning the oils we brought back from Bali - our bedroom smells beautiful!

Tuesday 3rd August 2010

12 storeys up with only a net between them and a big fall - but these blokes didn't seem bothered!

Sunday 1st August 2010

Cute picture of Kratos taken on the roof. We bought a sun umbrella and set up with towels, pillows, cold beer and cashew nuts. He, of course, got right in amongst it!

Saturday 31st July 2010

Home sweet home. We were welcomed by an very excited Kratos and the couch - overnight flights aren't the most fun in the world, especially for those doing the flying!

Friday 30th July 2010

Reason for travel to Bali: Massage. This was taken at the second massage place we went to in as many days. This one was the best by far - if you're ever in Bali try out Bali Orchid Spa. I've never been so relaxed!

Thursday 29th July 2010

First daylight impressions of Bali - HUMID! The floor was wet with humidity but I thought the effect of our footprints was pretty cool.

Wednesday, July 28, 2010

Wednesday 28th July 2010

Art took me with him to Bali as he had a two-day layover there. We arrived at 2 a.m. to pouring rain - this is how it looked.

I couldn't help thinking the whole time we were there that Elizabeth Gilbert (author of Eat, Pray Love) had been to this very airport and that was really cool. I'm such a dork!

Tuesday 27th July 2010

Sancia and Yoko came to our place for language exchange so I thought it only right to provide yummy stuff for afternoon tea from the local European style bakery. LOVE their cranberry custard danish!

Monday 26th July 2010

Entrance of the Monarch Hotel in Taoyuan, taken from the bus on my way to work.

Saturday, July 24, 2010

Saturday 24th July 2010

We went up Datou mountain with Alex and Yoko for a cup of coffee and Taoyuan's night view. I liked the sign of the cafe - which was open air and very full!

Friday 23rd July 2010

Yet another gorgeous Taipei day. This one was taken after I had had my first hike up Yangmingshan (YangMing Mountain). This photo looks past Jiantan MRT station towards the mountains.

AWESOME day!

Thursday 22nd July 2010

An absolutely stellar day in Taipei as Art and I headed to Silks Palace for a work dinner. It's days like this that make me love this city even more.

Wednesday, July 21, 2010

Wednesday 21st July 2010

My post-work, pre-tutoring ice-cream. Ate this whilst finishing off the last bit of an Ian McEwan novel. Nice.

Tuesday, July 20, 2010

Tuesday 20th July 2010

Yoko and Kratos on the roof. Kratos was sick the night before so I worked from home to look after him. By afternoon he was fine and dandy and gagging to play some ball!

I saw my book in a bookstore and got ridiculously excited. And then took a photo.

The best sandwich I have had in Taipei EVER. Absolutely addiction making - I will be back!

Looking South on Zhongshan North Road at Jiantan bus stop, waiting to get to work.

Monday 12th July 2010

Really cool green bug I saw crawling in the underpass in Taipei.

Sunday, July 11, 2010

Sunday 11th July 2010

Black bean beef (it was meant to be pork ribs but I defrosted the wrong meat bundle) and home style tofu. I'm getting the hang of this Chinese cooking lark!

Saturday, July 10, 2010

Saturday 10th July 2010

Art's awesome costume for Phoebe and Derek's dress-up wedding party in Yangmingshan.

Wednesday, July 7, 2010

Wednesday 7th July 2010

Not for the faint of heart! We fed Kratos a whole raw chicken for breakfast and he LOVED it. Can't say I was a huge fan of the process but happy to see him enjoy himself.

Sunday 13th June 2010

It's monsoon season here right now - rain rain and more rain. I thought it made the arch outside our door look pretty though.
